Vintage Dresses

April 30, 2011

PhotobucketThe weather is finally warming up here and I’m ready to start shopping for summer clothes. Because I’m still trying to lose another 60ish pounds I don’t want to invest in a bunch of clothes that won’t fit next summer, so tomorrow I’m planning a trip to Value Village. Yes, it’s not glamourous, but it’s cheap and I’m hoping to find some great vintage dresses (I’m looking at you Zooey Deschanel). Maybe this time next year I’ll be ready to sport shorts?

Exercising Safely

April 25, 2011

PhotobucketI’ve been away for awhile and since I last posted, I’ve started my career at an awesome skate/snow/surf shop as an office manager. I love my job, and because the company is small I wear a lot of hats: HR, accounting, scheduling, marketing and admin support, and really whatever else is thrown at me. I share this not only because it’s my blog and I can post what I want, but also because I have been cycling to work and back and was in an accident this morning.

I’m going to be a giant hypocrite and tell you to wear a bike helmet any and every time you bike. I own one, and I wasn’t wearing it. I’m okay, no concussion or broken bones, but I am sore, bruised and extremely thankful it wasn’t worse.

I just really want to urge anyone that may read my blog to take proper safety precautions with whatever exercise you do. If you are running or biking in traffic don’t wear headphones. If you are running or biking at night make sure you are visible. Lastly, always stretch before working out.

I know I won’t ever get on a bike without a helmet again. I’m still super shaken up by the whole event, and while it’s unfortunate I am so stubborn that something had to happen to show me I’m mortal, I’m so so thankful it wasn’t worse.

Measurement Monday

  • Waist: 36″
  • Hips: 42″
  • Bust: 40″
  • Thigh: 27″
  • Calf: 17.5″
  • Upper Arm: 12″

Also, I snapped a photo of my actual measurement chart. I think that trying to keep things appealing to use and look at makes actually using them easier. This is out in the open, hanging on a wall in my bedroom, so any guests see it. While I’m not yet where I want to be physically, keeping it out on display helps keep me accountable.

Red Hair, April 23rd, 2011

About a year ago I made this post about tips I use to boost my self-esteem. Lo and behold I am still using these, and some new things to keep me motivated.

I recently started dying my hair red, rather than brown, just to try something different. It’s exciting, and on days when I feel fat or bloated, I try to focus on making my hair pretty instead of drowning my sorrows in chocolate.

I also have been planning on buying a Zeno Hot Spot to help treat big, random pimples, that seem to evade my usual hygiene regimen. And, also a Clarisonic Pro brush. I know that when my skin is in great shape, it’s a lot easier to face the mirror (PUNS)!

There are always going to be good and bad days, even once I reach my goal weight, and I find the more I invest in the things I can actually control: clothes that fit, clear skin, white teeth, nice hair–I tend to feel better about myself overall and much less inclined to mess up on my dieting or exercise.
